Farkha, West Bank, 2016.
Farkha, West Bank, 2016. I have so many pictures of olive trees. This is an especially big one. In certain regions of the West Bank, tree and ground ownership can be separated, meaning that someone will own the tree, and someone will own the ground it grows in. Sometimes the big, old trees that branch out like this one can be owned by two people: one gets the olives from the left side, and the other gets the olives from the right.
Nablus, West Bank, 2012.
Nablus, West Bank, 2012.I am often uncomfortable taking photos in a place where I am a foreigner, especially when there are a lot of people around. But I remember that on this particular occasion I decided, for whatever reason, that today would be a good day to meander around the Nablus market and take some photographs. I think I was with Chelsey. I really liked how these guys were stacked up. The vegetable seller asked me sarcastically if I had radishes where I come from. I don't remember how I replied.

Jenin, West Bank, 2012. This little guy I think is a tomato plant living in a greenhouse. I think I really liked the light in this photograph, even though its not much of a picture of anything.
Jenin, West Bank, 2012.
Jenin, West Bank, 2012. I had gone up to Jenin for the day with my friend Ala', and at some point we visited her parents' greenhouse. Hence the tomatoes. At this point I had moved to Cairo, so it seems (from my photographs) that I visiting friends in the West Bank over my winter break. I don't often go up to Jenin, but I had been there in the spring of 2011, as the Syrian uprising was in its early days. I remember driving around Jenin with Ala' and others, listening to the radio, and wondering if it would be all be over by the time I moved to Damascus for an Arabic fellowship in the summer. I ended up in Cairo instead, and the uprising never ended.

'Ayn Kinya, West Bank, 2011.The springs outside of Ramallah are one of my favorite places in Palestine. This is from March, probably during one of our many weekend BBQs, and the green was still coming in.

'Ayn Kinya, West Bank, 2011. I just really liked these wild flowers.
Paris, France, 2011.
Paris, France, 2011.Is this Paris? I am pretty sure I took this when I was visiting my brother there, although now I'm not too sure. Did I visit him in April? I've always liked this photograph though.
Golan Heights, occupied Syria, 2010.
Golan Heights, occupied Syria, 2010.When my brother visited me in the West Bank, we rented a car and drove up the coast to Haifa and Akka, and then further into the Galilee and up into the Golan Heights. The mountains are gorgeous in the spring. I've visited a number of times since, but I don't think I've ever timed it quite right and often miss the peak of the green season.
San Marcos, California, 2010.
San Marcos, California, 2010. I took this one when I was visiting back home visiting my mom and dad in San Marcos. I think I had just received my 50mm 1.4 lens as a birthday gift, so I was messing around with it. I love these kinds of plants, but when I grow them in a pot, the leaves never remain bunched up like this. I had varying luck with keeping them alive. These guys were at my parents' though, and I think were quite happy.
